1. By introducing CPD, is the RAD saying my previous qualifications are no longer valid?
No. The RAD will still recognise all previous qualifications. The aim of CPD is to enhance the qualifications you already have, making sure you are the leaders in the dance education field.
Continuing Professional Development is an investment both in terms of time and money, and the amount of money you invest on your CPD is entirely up you. You can choose from the Academy’s portfolio of CPD activities or complete your CPD through external providers. You will be able to choose CPD activities to meet your budget and individual needs.
3. How much CPD should I do each year?
The minimum requirement for Time-Valued CPD is 24 hours per year.
Teachers can choose from a range of RAD organised intensive summer, weekend or day workshops designed to refresh their knowledge and understanding of the RAD syllabi, brush up on teaching methodologies as well as re-acquaint themselves with a range of dance, education and business management topics. Teachers can also complete up to eight hours of self-delcated Time-Valued CPD.
If choosing to undertake Credit-Rated CPD, Teachers will need to achieve a minimum of 10 credits over three years, however, most units/modules or programmes would exceed this in a year.
4. What type of activities will be included in Time Valued CPD?
Time-Valued activities may include:
- Mentoring
- Community Contributions committees, working groups that fall outside your usual work remit as well being a member of a board.
- Seminars
- Conferences
- Workshops
Eight hours of your Time Valued CPD can be self-declared. This may comprise broadening knowledge through reading books and articles, attending performances, using the wide array of podcasts and other materials available online to extend knowledge and understanding of dance, education or business management.
5. Can I carry over or backdate CPD Time or Credits?
By its nature CPD is a continuous process; it is about regular ongoing development. CPD activities will only count for the specific CPD year (or membership year) in which they are undertaken.
6. When does the RAD CPD year start and finish?
The RAD CPD year runs from 1 September – 31 August in any year
7. What happens if I do not complete my CPD requirement or I am struggling?
CPD is a requirement of registration which in turn allows you to enter students for examinations. If you do not fulfil your CPD requirement you could loose your teacher registration status and you will not be able to enter students for RAD examinations.
We understand that from time to time there are situations beyond your control which may prevent you from completing your full CPD requirement; in this case you would need to apply for a waiver. Such cases are assessed on an individual basis.
